Eggman Mech

Back in Sept. 2013 I was contacted by Big Red Button Entertainment to do some designs for the game Sonic Boom. It turned out they wanted me to do some design work for Eggman's big mech! I had a blast working on this and wanted to thank the great folks a BRB.

I will be posting numerous pages.

After doing the Tetsuo studies, I really liked the flying pose, so I turned it into a illustration.

Tetsuo Studies

Here are my Tetsuo studies. I was playing around with a realistic style with some manga sprinkled in there. Just trying to get a feel for the character.

Akira – the film and the manga series – holds a part of my heart, something that I think many artists can also admit.  It has been almost two decades since I saw Katsuhiro Otomo’s 1988 animated film.  I remember two distinct feelings from that time.  One, I was blown away.  Two, art can make anything possible.

I decided to do some sketching in the AKIRA universe. My own take on the characters and settings. More to come soon.

Starship breakdown.

I have had a few requests about my process. Here is the starship breakdown. My next one will be  a lot more comprehensive and from the beginning.

Once I modeled the ship in SketchUp. I imported the ship into Keyshot.

I played around with a lot of materials to see what I liked, I knew I wanted a  darker color so the ship felt malevolent. After some playing around I finally settled on the Fiberglass material. I also added a beer material to some of glassy parts.

For the light beam I used a white emissive material, this created a nice reflections on the Fiberglass material.

This was the end of my KS process. I did a TIFF render  and opened the file in Photoshop.

I will let the images do the talking from my PS process.

Hot Pursuit

The Tor-Az triplets come from the wealthy Tor-Az merchant dynasty.  Born in to unimaginable wealth, the three brothers spend their lives seeking thrills.  After experimenting with as many adrenaline-pumping  sports their wealth gave them access to, they decided to try the ultimate rush.  Bounty hunting.

The Tor-Az triplets utilize identical custom designed Manta Starcruisers in their endless pursuit of pleasure and risk.
