Step 4: Further Refinement

The design  process continues and small changes are made based on the needs in the story. Essentially his shoulder and arms are made smaller so he can fit within corridors.

When I do industrial design I always want the design to be able to function. I don't like using 'tricks' to hide the functions and movements. I want all my joints to able to move properly.

Here is another sheet with the scaling changes and exploring a few different functions CONRAD will be performing.

More coming soon.

Step 3: CONRAD Refinement

After the stage 2 roughs and discussions with the director I decided to jump into SketchUp and start putting the design together. The director has a idea of what he wants, but at the same time I am given artistic freedom to use my design skills to come up with the best design.

During the SketchUp process some things are changed from the sketches because the design process is always evolving. As you move forward, you find new things that will work better for what is needed. Some jobs need you to stick very stringently to the sketches and some allow for freedoms.

But the important thing is keep evolving the design, that's what designing is all about.

Joint & dexterity ideas.

Early Wood Style Test

Forgot to post this one. This is one of the earliest tests to try to figure out the wood style.

Another stage of roughs after talking to the director. Still very rough, just playing around with ideas.

Here are the first roughs for a design I am currently working on. These are for a short film.

I will not be including the concept brief or any feedback from the director, since it would too much stuff to write. You guys will just have to do with the visuals.:)

I will update with more as the design progresses. This work will give anyone interested a glimpse into how I work.:)
